Co-Teaching; the special education teacher and the general education teacher share one classroom. The teacher is teaching his general curriculum whereby the special education teacher specializes him/herself to modify and fit the needs of the students with disabilities in the classroom. Therefore it is very important to have a special educator in a classroom with a student who has special needs. Wouldn’t it be so, the student would struggle to progress the subject on his own. Furthermore, we more and more hear an alarming high number of high school dropouts in states that use high stakes standardized testing, mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act. In addition are the subject which are to be teaching, fuzzy to the students due the non existing time which is needed to work with the issue. Student do word calling, memorize, and unfortunately forget what they learned right after the test. No reading and processing takes place. A lot of non-English speakers are failing standardized tests in high numbers, the students intellect measurement does not count anymore; rather the measuring of the culture and language (especially the white culture). My personal philosophy, which I call Jennyvism, is based on the idea that learning should involve real-life situations. Learning becomes more concrete to a student when they apply it to real-life situations, as where learning things that do not connect to them. I would have to agree with John Dewey when he said, “I believe that education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living.”(My Pedagogic Creed 1897) Education is a process of living. I want children to learn to be able to think for themselves, and be problem solvers that will be able to use these skills in real life situations.
